Green Riders in Monterey County

To read Wallace’s story, please click here.  Because the Monterey County Herald does not keep articles readily available for long, please contact me if you would like a copy of this article sent to you.

Lane Wallace,  staff writer and business editor for the Monterey County Herald, told the HER Helmet Thursdays story in today’s Herald.  His feature, “Green riders,”  was accompanied by a photo by Orville Myers taken outside the Fishwife’s Turtle Bay Taqueria in Monterey.  All four of the Fishwife and Turtle Bay locations—Fishwife in Pacific Grove and Seaside, and Turtle Bay in Monterey and Seaside—are participants in HER Helmet Thursdays.

While the focus of HER Helmet Thursdays is largely on strengthening the health of the planet (ecology) and the health of the economy, Jefferson Seay, owner of the Fishwife and Turtle Bay restaurants, highlighted another aspect of the project:  the personal health benefits of more bicycling.   (See “What good does that do?” in HER Helmet Thursdays, Part II.)

Another personal health enthusiast quoted in Wallace’s story was Jeff Perrine, director of sales at Sanctuary Beach Resort in Marina, which is also a charter participant in HER Helmet Thursdays. Perrine often cycles the three miles to work—dressed in suit and tie, enjoying views of the sparkling Pacific as he approaches his workplace.
