Biking in the Rain

Does anyone really bike on rainy days? Of course! Among them is this student of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.

I first spotted him leaving the NPS campus, literally biking under a rainbow. When I caught up with him, I asked if he’d pause for some photos—just as the rain paused too, now only sprinkling.
But the size of those raindrops hinted at what was soon to return. After I shot these photos near historic Colton Hall, another heavy downpour began as he pedaled off for home.

Whether it’s because we need rain, or because of the endorphins he gets from bike commuting, his spirits were not dampened by the weather. As he headed up the Jefferson Street hill, he was still wearing a bright smile.
