Date Restrictions

If a location seems unlikely to be affected
by some of the special events listed below…

Know that discounts are indeed allowed at many locations on these dates. It’s fine to phone ahead and ask.  (See HER Helmet Thursdays listings page for their contact info.)

Holidays (2 restricted Thursdays for 2013)

Federal legal holidays mean Thursday discounts do not apply on:

  • Independence Day – Thursday, July 4, 2013
  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 28, 2013

Special event weeks (7 restricted Thursdays for 2013)

Monterey County has special events throughout the year that impact many businesses and organizations in the various cities.  Normally, the Thursday discount does not apply during these especially busy weeks.  However, many individual establishments are happy to waive the date restriction.   Remember, it’s fine to phone ahead and check!

What happens when lots of bicycle fans come to town?

Wondering about Thursday, April 18, 2013–the opening day of the Sea Otter Classic?  This is not a restricted date.  As a special welcome for the more than 60,000 bicycling athletes and fans expected in Monterey County for Sea Otter, all HER Helmet Thursdays participants still allow the usual discounts! 

Lodging – some additional restrictions

In addition to the project-wide date restrictions  listed above, some individual participants in the H/Hotels/lodging category find it necessary to also restrict additional busy periods.  When this is the case, those added restrictions will be specified in the individual participant’s detailed listing.

Property blackout dates

With a very few participants (e.g., Wickets at Bernardus Lodge), property blackout dates may apply, when the entire property is scheduled for a private event.  If this could come up, that possibility will be clearly noted (“Property blackout dates may apply”) in their individual detailed listing. Simply phone ahead to ask them about a specific date.
