Bike to history—along the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail, and elsewhere in Monterey County. Get inspiration on bikemonterey.org by typing “history” in the search window or use the following short link: https://bit.ly/BikeToHistory Did you know? In 1776 Spain named Monterey the capital of its Baja (lower) California and Alta (upper) California. In 1821 Mexico won its war for independence from Spain, and California subsequently pledged its allegiance to the Mexican government. In 1846 the Mexican-American War began, and not until the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed in 1848 did Alta California became part of the U.S. #history #biketohistory #historynerd #historytour #touringbike #delmontehotel #hoteldelmonte #historic #cahistory #californiahistory #Spain🇪🇸 #Mexico 🇲🇽#navalpostgraduateschool #Navy #railstotrails #montereybaysanctuaryscenictrail #bikemonterey #bicyclingmonterey #sustainablemoments #visitcalifornia #sustainable #transportation #montereycounty #bike #bikes #bicycle #bicycles #cycling #cyclinglife #bicycletouring

My daughter, Sierra, a blast from the past, in her native Monterey County. All grown up, this weekend she’s at Newport Folk Festival. Catch her fest highlights in her 🌏 @passportvoyager IG Newport stories. She has great taste in music 🎶, majored in music at @cunyedu, worked for @communionmusic, @bessrogers, @momandpopmusic, @bowerypresents, @livenation, @diversifiedproductionservices, @leavealastingmark, and more. @montereycountyweekly and Monterey Bay Area music lovers will remember her house concert series, including @ianaxel, @leliabroussard, and many more. And at the age she was in this photo, @orchestraintheschools knew this lil unschooler as 🎻 violinist and concert mistress. Enjoy her Newport highlights! 🎸🎤🎹🎟 #bikemontereycounty #kidsbike #newportfolkfest #newportfolk #newportfolkfestival #musical #TravelBlogger #bikemonterey #bicyclingmonterey #bikelife #bikergirl #bicyclelife #music #musiclovers #musically #travel #traveller #bicycles #bicycle #bike #bikes #monterey #newport #morekidsonbikes #dolls #dollsofinstagram #babydoll #babydolls #cuny #baruch

Touring by bicycle or just a local bike commuter? Either way, there are all kinds of spots to tuck your bike out of the way securely at Turtle Bay in Seaside. And this server is simply the best! Food is yummy, restaurant is independent and locally owned. And topping it off, Turtle Bay and both their sister spots— Fishwife in Seaside and Pacific Grove—are all 3 in the #HERHelmetThursdays Project since 2009. #SeasideCA #Seaside #PacificGrove #seafood #bikeseaside #bikepacificgrove #HERHelmetThursdays #bikemonterey #bicyclingmonterey #bikecommute #ecotourism #touringbybicycle #cycletouring #cycling #cyclinglife #bikelife #discounts #loveyourmotherearth #carbonemissions #actonclimate #climatechange #health #exercise #transportation #fun #montereycounty #acapaccoast #adventurebybike

Taqueria Del Mar on Lighthouse Ave in New Monterey is acclaimed by @passportvoyager, @montereyherald, @montereycountyweekly’s @photographnic, @montereymca, and so many more. Independent and locally owned for over 30 years, this fabulous little restaurant is also a charter participant—since 2009– in the #HERHelmetThursdays Project. That’s Brian, son of owner Nicolas Gasca. Nicolas’s niece Lilia Gasca, along with Nicolas, are there six days a week (closed Wednesdays), and Brian often comes to pitch in when he’s not in school. As you can see from these pictures, there’s a bicycle rack right out front, and you can even sit at the bar by the window if you want to keep an eye on your bike (such as if you’re a touring cyclist and have it loaded down with gear). . . #bici #bicicleta #taqueriadelmar #monterey #condadodemonterey #MontereyCounty #herhelmetthursdays #mexicanfood #bike #sostenible #transporte #sustainable #transportation #bikemontereycounty #bicyclingmonterey #bikemonterey #carbonemissions #actonclimate
