Memorial Day concerts on the lawns — at Naval Postgraduate School and at Colton Hall

Sunday, May 26, 2019, Memorial Day concert on the lawn of historic Hotel Del Monte (Herrmann Hall) at Naval Support Activity, Monterey (Naval Postgraduate School campus). http://monterey.navylifesw.com/activity/b018ad98-80b6-4123-b29b-9297285b9d21 – http://montereycountypops.org/memorial-day-nps-2019/
Monday, May 27, 2019, Memorial Day concert on the lawn of historic Colton Hall, Monterey: http://montereycountypops.org/2019-memorial-day-concert-to-remember-and-honor/
Both concert locations are near the City of Monterey’s section of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail. Consider using active transportation (i.e., biking, walking, or skating) to reach concert locations. For bike maps, click here. Bike parking tips for both locations are provided below.

Bike to either concert and you’ll be biking to history: the NPS concert is on the lawn of the historic Hotel Del Monte, and the City of Monterey concert is on the lawn of the historic Colton Hall.

If your point of departure means your schedule and stamina don’t allow biking all the way, consider a bike-and-ride option.
If using Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus, note their Memorial Day schedule changes: http://mst.org/maps-schedules/holiday-schedule/

On Memorial Day, we remember

SPC Vilmar Galarza Hernandez of East Salinas, California
PFC Michael T. Scroggin and SGT Raymond L. Gee, Jr. of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois
and the more than one million others who lost their lives in U.S. military service.

It’s unlikely to be as packed on the Colton Hall lawn on Memorial Day as it was in the scene below, but biking there is still a great idea most anytime.

Remember to lock up your bicycle. See bike security tips. If using the racks at Monterey Public Library (kitty corner from Colton Hall), be aware that bike racks at rear of the library are more subject to theft/vandalism than those in front.
